Professional Development (H.E.L.P.)

HASL HELP provides a way for librarians to help other librarians by sharing experiences and ideas with each other. Its slogan is "Hoa Kako'o," peers support one another.

HELP sessions build a special "connectedness" between and among fellow librarians, from public and private schools and across the island chain. It allows librarians to provide assistance to one another in an informal, interactive, nonthreatening learning and sharing environment.

Visit the HELP weebly at http://haslhelp.weebly.com to get current information such as upcoming sessions, tutorials, and polls.

HASL Webinars

HASL has a committee, the Professional Development Committee, comprised of Sandy Domion, Lois Nagamine, and Christine Keogh. To support HASL's continuing efforts to provide professional development for school librarians, the committee was asked to look into purchasing archived webinars. They selected a series of webinars which focused on information presented in AASL's Empowering Learners: Guidelines for School Library Media Programs.

Archived AASL Webinars Now Available for Viewing

By Lois Nagamine

Last year, the Professional Development Committee of HASL purchased some archived webinars (online seminars) from the American Association of School Librarians (AASL). Because they weren't very user friendly, we accessed the webinars from different computers and created tips on how best to view them. These archived webinars will finally be available to current HASL members. You should be receiving two invitations by e-mail from "haslpdwebinar." One of the e-mails will invite you to view the webinars and the second e-mail will invite you to participate in the discussion questions. Once you receive these e-mails, please respond within 2 weeks. If you encounter problems you can contact me at haspdwebinar@gmail.com. Once you accept the invitations and follow the easy directions, you can view the webinars or participate in the discussion questions whenever it is convenient for you. Enjoy!

The Professional Development Committee has purchased the viewing rights to four webinars from the American Association of School Librarians (AASL).
